Born in 1997, on Margarita Island, Venezuela, Jose Angel Salazar is a prominent young conductor with vast experience in the approach of varied repertoire and programming. He has been appointed Jette Parker Ballet Conductor at the Royal Opera House in London, working with the Royal Ballet for the two seasons of 2023 until 2025. From 2018 until 2023, he worked as Artistic and Music Director of El Sistema Greece, performing and programming concerts in Greece's most prestigious concert venues and festivals, while continuing to attend multiple invitations as a guest conductor in different countries.
Having started his career as early as 14 years old, Jose Angel has conducted innumerable concerts in his native Venezuela and abroad, collaborating with different youth and professional orchestras. Because of this, he has been praised and showcased by prominent media and critics, such as Slipped Disc, China National TV, Reuters, and The Guardian. Always dynamic, attentive, and meticulous, Jose Angel was also selected as an assistant for Gustavo Dudamel and Christian Vasquez in the preparation for multiple performances, recordings, and international tours.

Initiated in conducting by his mentor Felipe Izcaray, Jose Angel has also participated in masterclasses with prestigious conductors, such as Ricardo Muti, Dick van Gasteren, Manfred Huss at the Swarowsky Akademie, Rüdiger Bohn at the Robert Schumann Hochschule, Alejandro Posada, Phillipe Auguin, Eduardo Marturet, and Michalis Economou. Being educated within El Sistema, Jose Angel attended conducting studies at the Special Program for Academic Development in Caracas with Gregory Carreño. An exceptional student, José was selected to participate in an international exchange with the University of Göteborg, Sweden, for the master program of Orchestral Performance. From 2020, Jose has participated in different conducting competitions such as, the first edition of the Arthur Nikisch Conducting Competition (finalist), the “Lliria City of Music'' International Conducting Competition, and the Deutscher DirigentPreis in 2021.
Born and raised in a family of educators, José is an avid enthusiast for languages. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian, speaks Greek at an intermediate level, and is working on a few more.
